Food Allergy

There is a growing incidence of food allergy in dogs and cats with skin and bowels-upset problems. When asked about an itching dog, many owners are quick to say that they only feed lamb and rice and assume that their pet now could not be allergic to food. Contrary, many pets can be truely allergic to ingredients like beef, milk, eggs, corn, wheat, soy or intolerant to certain other additives, food additives or colors and  even preservatives.Regardless of the type of Adverse Reaction to Food, your pet may suffer from skin rash, hair loss, excessive scratching, diarrhea or other symptoms of gastrointestinal upsets. Surprisingly, you may need to prepare or feed your pets foods containing protein sources such as rabbit, venison, potato, kangaroo, sugar beet and yam? These foods are commonly available as new means to manage food allergies in our hospital.
Diagnosis of adverse reaction to food can be difficult but we at Garfield Animal Hospital offer a variety of Allergy Tests or Panels and carry many Prescription Diets by Purina HA/ LA, Hills ZD, Royal Canin Duck & Potato, Venison & Potato, Green Peas and Rabbit, White Fish and Potato, and Iams Veterinary Response FP and Low Residue Puppy/Adult.  Need more Info? Call 562-630-2082 or email at: garfieldanimalhospital@officeliveusers.com

If blood tests are not affordable then certain food

ingredients' elimination trials can be done for at least couple months with these mentioned foods along with stopping all other kinds of treats or biscuits.

All food proteins and the carbohydrates are potentially allergenic because they are foreign to the body's immune system and have the ability to incite allergic reaction. The answer to managing food allergy is a three-step program: identification, elimination and management.

We carry varieties of Prescription Diet choices listed   above sold only to Veterinarians and will be glad to arrange for Other Varieties if you need one. Please call us at 562-630-2082 to order and or schedule an appointment for your pet.
