Allergies in Dogs and Cats

Almost 1 out of 3 pets suffer from one or morer kind of allergy such as an Atopic allergy, and the incidence of allergy to some trees, plants and grass has doubled in recent years. At the same time, as more pets are sleeping indoors and in beds, many are becoming allergic to household dust and dust mites called Inhalent allergy. A simple washing of beds and vacuming of your carpet can reduce your pet's itching. Allergies may be seasonal  like Fleas allergy and Grass allergy or in some cases year round especially those associated with indoor environment or with certain foods. Recent advances in flea control products such as Comfortis®, Advantix®, FrontlinePlus®, Revolution®have significantly reduced flea allergy. Please check Special Offers page on our Website for "Recession Specials" on above flea products.

The Food Allergy is very common in pets with a variety of symptoms like itching, biting or chewing, hair loss, gas in bowels, diarrhea or vomiting. Remember .... everything that itches is not always due to an allergy and neither does every allergy causes itching.
Call us if you have any question about food allergy as we have different varieties of Prescription Diets for your pet at 562-630-2082 by making an appointment with the doctor.

To treat properly, an accurate diagnosis is very important and yes ...most of the allergies can be diagnosed. A thorough history of your pet's food, the pets'  environment  and any presence or exposure to fleas, mosquitoes or insects  will give us some ideas and can help to evaluate any allergy and through skin tests or laboratory blood tests. Not only can we diagnose many allergies but can  also treat or manage very well to the pet's comfort and reduce itch for a "good night sleep". Also, many drugs like Atopica® by Novartis are also available at our Hospital which can very significantly reduce allergy symptoms and can even cure the allerg if taken on a regular and continuous basis.

We at the Garfield Animal Hospital use Professional Laboratories  ( Biomedical Services) for allergy testing and also refer complicated cases to a Dermatology Specialist for an answer, in case you opt so!  Please, call us at 562-630-2082 to schedule an appointment for your pet today with our doctor if your pet is itching!
